Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My baby is 25 days old and feeding only formula milk. She is pooping in green color, sometimes spitting small amounts of milk, and sometimes not burping. Is there any special request? I am feeding stage 1 type of formula milk. Sometimes at night, she is not sleeping, asking for the honey nipple. Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

1. Can you specify a problem with more details like,

a. Are you saying she is not tolerating feed?

b. Are you asking for an alternative to formula feed?

c. What is honey nipple?

2. Change in stool color is known, which is physiological, and it improves as the baby grows.

3. If the baby is not tolerating formula feed of a particular brand, you can try it with different brands.

4. Make sure after every feed baby is given a proper burp.

5. Do not overfeed, which can cause discomfort to the baby as well as spitting.

6. Any reason for not breastfeeding?

Breastfeeding is highly suggested and will have fewer problems than formula feed.

Feel free to connect me if any concerns.

Happy to serve you.

Kind regards.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thanks for the reply.

She is an adopted baby, so I am not able to breastfeed.

She is drinking formula milk well, but sometimes the baby is not burping properly at night. How many hours once can we feed her milk?

She is drinking 50 mL of milk two to three hours once. But at night, sometimes she asks within one hour, not sleeping properly. Morning till evening sleeping well. The honey nipple is a nipple toy. For burping, is there any procedure to do? Can we give grape water now?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

1. Happy to know she is an adopted baby.

2. Formula feed can be given for two to three hours once.

3. After every feed, give proper burping.

4. Grape water is not suggested.

5. Burping is actually keeping the baby upright position after feeding for 25 to 30 minutes.

Feel free to connect me if any concerns.

Happy to serve you.

Kind regards.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Yesterday night she vomited full milk. Giving 50 to 60 mL milk for the baby to drink every two to three hours is not overfeeding, right?

Please advise.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

1. 1.67 to 2 oz is suitable for a full-term good, weight baby.

2. I suggest giving on-demand rather than calculated feed (the baby may take more, sometimes take less).

3. Need for a higher amount of milk will increase as the baby grows.

Feel free to connect me if any concerns.

Happy to serve you.

Kind regards.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I need clarification on what demand feed means.

I am giving scoop calculations according to the instruction on formula feed, three scoops 90 mL water, and now I am feeding as per this.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Demand feeding means feeding as much as the baby wants.

Yes, You can calculate the preparation and prepare. But when feeding, if you are giving 1.67 oz at a time but the baby still wants, then you can go ahead giving 0.33 to 0.67 oz extra (instead of 1.67 oz, you are giving 1.67+0.33 or 0.67 = 2.00 or 2.33 oz) at a time.

Sometimes you want to give 1.67 oz, but the baby is not taking it and only feed 1 to 1.33 oz; that is acceptable. That means the baby may not want it.

Feel free to connect me if any concerns.

Happy to serve you.

Thanks and regards.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you so much.

I understand. But even after burping sometimes, she vomits a small amount of milk. Is it fine? Only the night she is not sleeping properly, is there any problem, or will the baby be fine?

Sorry for asking so many questions. This is my first time for me to be parenting, so I have many doubts.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

1. It is fine for a small amount of vomiting once in a while.

2. Night sleep is important. Keep it balanced over the feed (neither too much more nor too less).

3. She will adapt gradually, and things will get better.

Happy to serve you.

Thanks and regards.
