Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My baby has frequently been vomiting since he was four months old. However, all of the upper GI tests and abdominal ultrasounds were normal. He is no longer vomiting, but he is only gaining weight slowly. He is frequently fussy and has a low appetite on occasion. The blood reports were abnormal. We want to know what might be wrong with him and what other tests are required.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

After ruling out gastrointestinal tract (GIT) causes, the only cause of vomiting in a 4-month-old child is airway obstruction, the most commonly due to allergy, as indicated by eosinophilia in complete blood count (CBC). The child cannot breathe, and mucus has formed in the upper airway and oropharyngeal tract. It causes vomiting and mucus expulsion. The child only calms down after vomiting. Take care of his allergies, and he will be fine. There are 1 % atypical lymphocytes in the complete blood count (CBC) report, which are normal immunologically active lymphocytes commonly found in children up to the age of four. Micronutrient deficiency is indicated by red cell morphology. Increase his iron, vitamin B12, folic acid, Pyridoxine, vitamin D, Zinc, Phosphate, and Calcium intake. Use commercially available preparations from your area.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

I want to know about the elevated basophil levels and what might be causing them. There are no signs of allergic reaction or airway obstruction. So what could be the reason?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

In allergic conditions, basophils and eosinophils are both increased. It also increases in certain types of elderly leukemia. However, except for a micronutrient deficiency, I find nothing serious. Worm infestations and certain GIT (gastrointestinal tract) conditions, such as eosinophilic gastritis, also increase eosinophils.
