Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I thought I had strained a mid-right back muscle while golfing. I was having pain when sitting and discomfort while sleeping. Yesterday I had an area in the upper right of my stomach distended. It aligned with the back pain and was roughly the size of a hot dog bun. My stomach was about normal when I went to bed, but the distension returned in the morning. I have never seen or heard of this before. What might cause mid-back pain with stomach distention and that too both on the right side? The pain is only in the back, none in the stomach. Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com. I read the query and understand your concern. Actually, such back pain can be due to muscle aches or kidney or urine infections, which can cause back pain as well. If the pain is severe, we should consider kidney stones as a possibility. Urine infections and kidney stone pain often come with difficulties in passing urine and a burning sensation while urinating, so please let me know if you have any of these symptoms. Otherwise, it is likely just muscle pain, and it should improve with a few days of rest and medication. I suggest you take a tablet of Pantoprazole (antacid) 40 mg once before breakfast and a tablet of Aceclofenac and Paracetamol combination once after a meal (whenever you have pain) for five days each. Avoid lifting heavy weights. And for further guidance and support please let me know about:

  1. How severe is the pain?

  2. Since when do you have this pain?

  3. Do you have frequent urination or pain while passing urine?

Please provide the information so that I can offer appropriate advice.

Regards.
