Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I am seriously considering bariatric surgery after 15 years of obesity and worsening health. I have been suffering from diabetes, sleep apnea, high blood pressure, and now beginning fatty liver disease.
I lost 70 pounds on one a few years back but regained it all plus more within a year. I have heard some people develop severe vitamin deficiencies after these surgeries, and my sister-in-law had complications requiring additional surgeries.
I feel like this is my last chance to regain my health.
Please help.
Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I can understand your concern.
Bariatric surgery can significantly improve conditions like diabetes, sleep apnea, and high blood pressure. Sleeve gastrectomy generally has fewer complications and is effective for diabetes.
Post-surgery, you can eat normal food in smaller portions.
Vitamin deficiencies are a risk, so lifelong supplements are necessary. Excess skin is common after significant weight loss, but resistance training and certain nutrients can help.
Discuss these factors with your doctor to weigh the risks and benefits based on your health needs. This could be a pivotal step towards regaining your health.
I hope this information will help you.
Thanks.
