Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I think I might have bipolar disorder since I have a lot of depression periods where I sleep a lot but still feel tired. I think about death a lot, but I do not think I am suicidal. I lose motivation in things that I love to do, like drawing. I also get periods of happiness where I can not sleep or eat. I make plans and am just so happy and excited about everything even doing chores or studying excites me. I have done a lot of online tests, and my dad has always joked about it. I also have weird mood swings. I have noticed these symptoms for two years. Previous doctors had asked me to talk about it, but I just cannot. Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query, and I can understand your concern.

Bipolar disorder contains two poles, one of depression and one of mania. In the depressive phase, the patient has low mood, sleep disturbances, and loss of interest in work and cheerful activities. But in the manic phase, the patient has an elevated mood, spends money recklessly, reduced sleep, and increased energy. BPAD (bipolar affective disorder) patients have a positive family history. If you are having the above symptoms, then you may have BPAD. Between the two phases, the patient becomes normal. Sleep disturbance itself may cause mood swings.

  1. Do you have sleep disturbances?

  2. Do you have awakening spells during sleep?

  3. Do you have a problem with the induction of sleep?

If yes, then all symptoms are because of your sleep disturbances.

I hope this information will help you.

Thanks.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
