What causes bipolar disorder and manic episodes?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have bipolar disorder with severe manic episodes and endometriosis. I was informed that both diseases are caused by overproducing oxytocin, so I am trying to lower my oxytocin levels. How can I lower my oxytocin levels?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query.

I understand your concern. Bipolar is not caused by oxytocin imbalance. Bipolar is caused by neurotransmitter imbalance or oxytocin and has genetic or heredity factors. I do not think balancing your oxytocin levels can cure or treat your problem. I suggest you to regularly follow up with your doctor and have a mood stabilizer.

I hope this has helped you. Thank you.
