Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I took birth control oral pills a week before having sex. I am still taking those pills for the past two weeks. Now my period is delayed. What to do?

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understood your concern.

If you have taken birth control pills continuously for one week before having sex and have been taking them regularly since then, your period may have been delayed due to the hormones in the pills. The hormones in birth control pills can suppress ovulation and prevent the release of an egg from the ovary, which can lead to a delay or absence of periods.

If you have missed your period for more than two weeks, it is recommended to take a pregnancy test to rule out the possibility of pregnancy. If the test is negative, you may want to consult with a healthcare provider to ensure that there are no underlying medical conditions that could be causing the delay in your periods. They can also guide how long you should continue taking the pills before starting a new cycle or switching to a different method of contraception.

Hope it helps.

Thanks and regards.
