What are the dark spots on the glans after undergoing circumcision?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I underwent circumcision 12 years ago, and there was some dark spot on the glans sometime after the circumcision. But slowly, it grew, but there was no pain, and nothing else, just dark spots, but they are large. Should I be worried? Currently, I am 20-years-old.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

It appears to be penile melanosis due to an increase in the number of melanocytes or melanin pigment. A biopsy is needed to rule out malignancy, if any. Look for changes in the lesion, and observation is needed. Avoid scratching and rubbing. I suggest you wash the area with an Episoft cleanser or no soap cleanser daily. Maintain proper hygiene. Avoid occlusion or friction. Keep the area clean and dry. I suggest tablet Limcee (Vitamin C) 500 mg once a day after breakfast for 30 days. If cosmetic concerns, a carbon dioxide laser is a treatment option. I suggest Kojic soap (Kojic acid) for the bath for two months. Regards.
