Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
Before donating blood, a blood group test is done by taking blood from the finger, and while donating blood, we squeeze the sponge ball. Everyone who donates blood uses the same squeeze ball. Will blood exchange? And is it possible to get infections from this? Please clear me regarding this. Kindly help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Thank you for your query. I read your query and understood your concern.
Yes, after taking a blood sample from a finger or hand, not cleaning it with antiseptic lotion properly can cause infection. But usually, while taking blood, they will follow the rules to avoid infection. You need not to worry.
Have you seen any blood stains on the ball? If not very rarely, it is possible to get an infection.
I hope my advice will be helpful. Feel free to reach out if you have any further queries.
Thank you.
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
Thank you for your reply.
I cleaned the finger with anti-septic lotion. As the ball color itself was red, I did not know about blood stains. So, do I need to worry or not? Kindly help.
Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
You need not worry since the finger was cleaned with anti-septic lotion.
Thank you.
