Does having a similar blood group to that of your partner harm the fetus?

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My husband and I have the same blood group that is B negative. If both partners have the same blood group, does it negatively impact the future progeny? Also, what other factors (other systems than ABO and Rhesus) must be considered before proceeding further?

Please answer.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I went through your query and understood your concern.

The B blood group is from the ABO blood grouping system; the negative is the Rh blood grouping system. You have a similar blood group, but this will not be a problem. You can get married. I suggest you both get screened for thalassemia minor by the Hb (hemoglobin) electrophoresis HPLC (high-performance liquid chromatography) method.

I hope this has helped you out.

Thanks and regards.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
