Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Two years ago I had blood in my stool. Colonoscopy came back clear, except for internal hemorrhoids. Had them banded one year ago. I could see no issues after that. Six months ago, I started weightlifting with a tonal. Last week I lifted too heavy and with bad form and had some blood in my stool again. Went away within 24 hours. This morning I lifted something heavy from the floor without thinking and had some blood again. I am thinking it is an internal hemorrhoid.

I have the following questions:

  1. What is the best course of action here?

  2. Clearly, I have not lifted heavy weights for a while, but what kind of exercises can I still do?

  3. Should I take it easy for two to three weeks and let it heal by itself or visit a gastroenterologist?

My main concern is that I would like to continue to use the tonal for exercising in some capacity as it was helping me get fit and lose weight. I am on Symbicort (Budesonide and Formoterol) for asthma and Hydrochlorothiazide (Microzide) 12.5 milligrams for hypertension. My current blood pressure weekly on average is 124/77 mm/Hg.

Thank you.
