Can you confirm if my fractured sacrum has indeed fully healed?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Recently, I got a fracture in my sacrum. After taking a rest for two months, the doctor advised me to do an MRI scan. The result showed that the stress fracture has healed. But still, I have some numbness and pain in the area after doing exercise.

My pain begins and ends very quickly. It is very mild. It started to have this issue three weeks after the healing time of the fracture. I would like to know whether it has healed fully.

Kindly assist.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have gone through the attached image (attachment removed to protect patient identity). You do not have any fractures now. There is callus formation, which suggests the healing process.

To regain tensile strength, it takes approximately a month. I suggest you avoid sports, lifting heavy objects, and the gym, and continue taking medications as prescribed.

The probable cause may be a stress injury.

The investigation to be done is magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

Differential diagnosis may be -

  1. Bony degeneration.
  2. Osteophytic changes.
  3. Stress fracture.

The probable diagnosis is a stress fracture.

Preventive measures include avoiding doing-

  1. Heavy lifting.
  2. Gym.
  3. Strenuous activities.
  4. Sports.

Follow-up to be done at any time.

I hope this answers your query.

Please let me know if I can assist you further.

Thank you.
