Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

For almost a year, I have been contemplating bipolar disorder. I am uncertain if it is that or just depression. I have noticed extreme changes in my appetite. Sometimes, I do not sleep at all due to heightened energy in my 'good' weeks. In those 'good' months, I feel like the best person on earth, but then suddenly, I cannot get out of bed. During these 'good' periods, I engage in risky behaviors. I experience intense mood swings, shifting from irritation or anger to excitement or happiness in seconds. I admit to being extremely selfish. I am unsure if it is depression. Please advise.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for seeking help from a psychiatrist. I am glad to see you again. It appears you do not have bipolar disorder but rather borderline personality disorder. This involves chronic feelings of emptiness, emotional outbursts, overwhelming behavior, and self-harming tendencies. You might often feel misunderstood, struggle with maintaining long-term relationships, face frequent job-related issues, and experience anger outbursts and extreme mood swings. I hope this provides some clarity. Let me know if you need further assistance.

Thank you.
