Are persistent, non-growing, and asymptomatic lumps on the breasts a cause for concern?

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have a lump in my right breast and I got it checked a few years back. The doctor reassured me saying that there were no issues. I had a routine checkup for two years and then I stopped going. Recently, my mom wants me to go get my breasts checked again. I am a 30-year-old woman and I am not on any medication. The lump in my right breast is still there, but it has neither become big nor has it turned small. The discoloration underneath the breasts is still there. There is no discharge from the nipples. I had an ultrasound done on the right breast about two to three years back and it was normal. I did not think it was a big deal but now the internet has scared me and I am nervous to consult a doctor. Mostly, I feel fine but I just want to talk with someone about it. Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

With passion, commitment, and experience, I hope I will be able to provide you with a top-class medical opinion.

You should perform regular self-examination of your breast, and check for lumps, discoloration, and any discharge, and also compare both breasts. A small lump in the breast could be because of high cholesterol (fat lump) or could be because of some infection (in such cases, there would be pain and redness in the breast). But as per your description, there is no pain, discharge, or variation in size. Since it is not increasing in size, it is a good sign. There is no need to worry but I suggest you follow up with your doctor every two to three years.

Feel free to revert if you have any further queries.

Thank you.
