Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I noticed that I had a lump on the right side of my breast. It is tiny and not painful. The doctor said during our annual physical examination that it is normal to have breast lumps before and after menstruation because it will disappear. But I noticed it is almost one month since my menstruation got over, but the lump is still there. What should I do? Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I thoroughly read your query and understand your concern.

If you are worried about breast cancer, then it is highly unlikely at your age unless you have a very strong family history or some other cancer syndrome. So most likely, your doctor is right. Also, if the period is around one month, then a new one should be around the corner. And many of these types of lumps just increase and decrease in size with the fluctuation of hormones but do not go away completely. If you still want, you can observe it for two to three monthly periods, and if still present, I suggest you get an ultrasound. A biopsy may or may not be always required.

Hope that helps.

Follow up if you need any more information.

Kind regards.
