Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My breath feels like it has been constantly stuck in my throat for the last few days. When I inhale, it feels like the air does not entirely go down. My Adam's apple and thyroid are lower in a way they did not use to be, and it seems to be progressing and getting worse daily. I took two videos showing what it looks like one week apart. Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com. I read your query and understand your concern.

As I can see, (attachment removed to protect patient's identity) Adam's apple and neck appear normal. In males, it is usual for adam's apple to appear prominent. Coming to your breathing issue, do you feel breathless or choking? Any history of throat pain, asthma, allergies, or other illnesses for which you are on medications? Please give me a clarification regarding what you mean by air does not entirely go down. Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply. My Adam's apple and my thyroid appear to go down much further than usual when I inhale. I do not know if you checked the video, but there is a big difference just after a week. I have no history of asthma or any other illnesses. What I mean is that it is getting harder to take a full breath. It feels as if the air stops further as time passes (and it is in my throat now). Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Sorry, I tried, but the streamable link is not opening. Can you send me another link? The thyroid and adam's apple (also known as prominence of thyroid cartilage) are connected by pretracheal fascia, so it is normal. However, at the same time, while swallowing, your trachea and thyroid cartilage move. Do you have any history of substance abuse or psychiatric illness? Do you have a problem with swallowing also? Do revert. Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the response. The movement is not just when I swallow, but every time I inhale. Here is another link for the video. I do not have a history of substance abuse. However, I have dealt with depression in the past. In addition, I have problems with swallowing.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com..

Sorry, the link has failed to open. The website says the site cannot be reached. I suggest you consult your ENT (ear, nose, and throat) specialist and undergo a flexible laryngoscopy. This would give a view of your larynx and pharynx and can detect any obstruction if present, which I do not think is present in your case. But as per your words, I can say that any obstruction in the airway would cause something known as stridor, it is noisy breathing. Are you continuing your psychiatric medications, or have you discontinued them? What was your therapist's advice? Also, what is the problem with swallowing? Is it painful or gets obstructed? If present, so is it for solids or liquids? Please be patient, but as per the pictures (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity), I saw no swelling present. So please do not worry. Thank you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
