Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I wanted to inquire about my 37-year-old wife's symptoms. We have two kids. Recently, she has been experiencing significant depression, and we consulted a doctor who prescribed Brexpiprazole for her condition. However, after taking the medication for a week, she has been consistently experiencing headaches and difficulty sleeping at night. We are concerned that the medicine may be making her days more challenging than beneficial. What should we do now? Is it advisable for her to stop the medication immediately, and would doing so cause any additional issues? What would be the most effective approach for treating her depression?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your situation and concern about your wife.

Your wife may have a Major depressive disorder. She is on tablet Brexpiprazole. It is an atypical antipsychotic and is not very helpful in depression. You can give her tablet escitalopram 10mg daily in the morning after breakfast and tablet clonazepam 0.5 mg at night for sleep disturbances. There is also non-pharmacological management for depression, I suggest she follow the below guidelines to deal with it. It will help her.

  1. Engage in daily exercises for 30 to 45 minutes, such as going for a walk.
  2. Practice meditation for 20 minutes daily, focusing on normal breathing.
  3. Consume healthy, home-cooked foods and avoid junk foods.
  4. Ensure she drinks enough water.
  5. Spend quality time with friends and family daily or through video calls if living away.
  6. Engage in creative hobbies like reading, journaling, painting, drawing, and learning new skills or languages.
  7. Aim for seven to eight hours of sleep daily.
  8. Avoid tobacco, alcohol, or any substance abuse.
  9. Find reasons to live life fully, not just spend it.
  10. Be bold and confident.

I hope you find this information helpful. Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Thank you.
