Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I received a horse bite on the underside of my arm about nine hours ago. Skin grazed and a bit bruised. I got into a bit of shock, but after a quick sit down and small sips from a drink, I felt better (I had not eaten beforehand). I just want to know if there is anything I should be concerned about or look for.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
1. Mouths of all animals and humans have bacteria. You should take antibiotics.
2. You should have tetanus immunoglobulin and a vaccine depending upon local guidelines.
3. Very rarely, horse bite may transmit rabies. So depending upon local guidelines, the anti-rabies vaccine can be received.
4. Keep the wound clean, and apply topical antiseptics such as Dettol or Povidone-Iodine.
