Which soap should I use to clean the glans?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have small red bumps on the penile head since a week. They occurred possibly after I took antibiotics for tonsil infection. It caused acidity. It started with mild itching on penile head. The itching subsided after a couple of days, but the small red bumps are still present. They are accompanied by a mildly bad odor and sometimes thick white scattered dry discharge. Retracting the foreskin is not painful and there is no burning sensation. I had unprotected intercourse with my long time partner after a substantial gap. The itching started before 15 to 20 days without any discharge. Every day, I clean the genitals with normal soap from outside and even after urinating I clean it from tap water. Kindly advise on the course to be followed. Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

These bumps could be a result of infection or fixed drug eruption. You also need to retract your prepuce and clean the glans with soap while bathing up to the coronal area. Please send me a picture and also let me know the exact name of the medications that you took. I shall reply back promptly.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

Should I use normal soaps, which are a bit hard? Or would you suggest a specific soap that I should use for cleaning whole of the glans every day? I used to avoid washing it with soap, because it feels a bit tough and sensitive. Once in a blue moon, I wash it with a mug of savlon water. I am attaching the required pictures for your reference.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Tablet Levocitrizine 10 mg once a day is an antiallergic. It should solve the problem. Levocetirizine tablet may cause some somnolence. I hope that you are already off the antibiotic. Consult your specialist doctor, discuss with him or her and take the medicine with consent. You can use any soap, but please avoid savlon. You are most welcome to follow up with me after three days.
