What causes burning sensation in penis?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have a mild burning sensation on the tip of my penis glans. It has been a few months since the burning started and it does not seem to cure. At times the burning sensation stays for a whole day and sometimes swelling appears too. Also, I had unprotected sex with my partner for the first time; she is fine and does not have any discomfort.

I underwent a urine culture test, blood sugar test, HIV test, and VDRL test and all the test reports came out normal. I have tried many antibiotics and applied Fusiwal cream, which did not show any results. I am currently using Quadriderm RF cream but the burning is still there. I am worried about what could it be?

Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query and can understand your concern.

If all the tests are normal, then I suggest you stay relaxed and follow the instructions mentioned below;

  1. Avoid irritation or friction in that area.
  2. Wear loose cotton innerwear.
  3. Do not over-clean using harsh soaps.
  4. Wash the area with warm water twice daily.
  5. Drink more water and healthy fluids.

Also, I request you to answer the following questions to analyze the condition better;

  1. Do you or your partner have any fungal infections or any other infections, or allergies, or diseases?
  2. Do you have difficulty retracting your foreskin?

If there is swelling, I suggest you consult a dermatologist in person for further examination, diagnosis, and management.

Please revert with clear photos of the area, if possible, and add the other details requested for a better analysis of the condition.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

I have no difficulty retracting my foreskin but it gets stuck with the glans. Sometimes, my glans tip swells, and small bumps appear on the sides of the penis shaft. Also, I am not sure if my partner has any infections, but she does not have any symptoms as of now.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

As of now, I suggest you follow the instructions as mentioned earlier and apply Mupirocin 2 percent ointment if you notice any swelling. If the swelling or symptoms persist then consult a dermatologist for further examination and management.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
