Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been experiencing frequent and prolonged episodes of burping, lasting for hours, which primarily consists of small, air-filled burps. Leaning forward triggers acid reflux. These burping episodes have been ongoing for five weeks and have escalated in severity, occurring daily and lasting for several hours. During prolonged attacks, I experience lightheadedness and become breathless even when walking short distances, such as climbing a few stairs. I have been prescribed Pantoprazole 40 mg twice a day for five weeks and take antacids after meals, although they provide limited relief. Consuming milk and cream helps with the symptoms. Drinking beer leads to coughing up phlegm. Swallowing food feels constricted around the breastplate, causing discomfort. It appears that food might be getting partially stuck during the passage, or my stomach may be exerting pressure on my chest.

I also have a recent history of a broken nose, potentially resulting in a deviated septum, and I have been diagnosed with mild scoliosis in my upper spine. I am currently taking antacids two or three times a day in addition to Pantoprazole 40mg twice a day (administered half an hour before breakfast and dinner).

I would like to understand whether this condition is indicative of GERD or if another issue may be contributing to the symptoms. Should I be concerned about the severity of the burping? Please help.

Thank you.

Hi doctor,

Thanks for your reply.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Your lightheadedness is not directly linked to your burping from a medical perspective. Instead, it might be a result of feeling drained due to the frequent and prolonged burping episodes. The findings related to your spine and nasal injury do not appear to explain the recurrent burping and the discomfort you experience when swallowing food, particularly the tightness in your chest.

Hope this information helps you.

Thank you.
