Why am I burping excessively for four days?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been burping nonstop for four days. It will only stop for more than half an hour. It does not hurt, but there is a slight burn in the throat, which is bearable.

I have been told this could be acid reflux, but I have recently been to the doctor over an excretion-related problem, and I had blood tests done to see if it was irritable bowel syndrome or Crohn's disease. I am really worried as my exams are coming.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

Burping can be related to hiatus hernia and reflux, not irritable bowel syndrome or Crohn's disease. Because it has many more symptoms, even aerophagia could be the cause. If you are swallowing more air while eating or drinking, burping is also common. It is not a very serious condition at all. After your exams, get an endoscopy to rule out a hiatus hernia.

I hope this information helps you.
