Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been suffering from IBS-D along with chronic fatigue and anxiety for the last 8 years. Almost everything that I eat comes out of my body. Please help me out.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand what you are going through. Since I do not have much history of whether you have received any treatment before or not, I will advise a few things you should remember when you have IBS-D (Irritable Bowel Syndrome with Diarrhea).

1) Avoid foods like bread, cereals, nuts, and bran. Have more oats, barley, fruits like apples and bananas, and vegetables like carrots and potatoes. Have wheat (chapati or parathas ) or rice in limited quantities.

2) Take small but frequent meals. Have at least three meals a day. 2 snacks in between. You can have soup in between meals or fruits.

3) One drug that helps IBS-D is Loperamide. Take tablet Loperamide once in the morning for the next few days, and see if it is able to control the symptoms. Please consult a specialist and take the medication with their consent.

4) If you are having abdominal cramps before diarrhea, take Dicyclomine tablet (which can be taken twice daily). Consult a specialist and take the medication with their consent.

5) Limit alcohol or cold drinks. If possible, avoid it altogether.

6) Do not take any artificial sweetener (sugar-free).

7) Try adding probiotic curd to your diet. It gives you "good" bacteria and helps in digestion.

If you have not done any computerized tomography (CT) scan of the abdomen till now, I will recommend you get one since sometimes inflammatory bowel disease such as Crohn's or ulcerative colitis can cause chronic diarrhea.

I hope that helps.

Thank you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
