Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have a sore throat and my tonsils have one white spot on it. A few chunks came out of my tonsil. I have bad breath, body aches, and a headache. Why so? Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I went through your query and understood your concern. You are suffering from acute tonsillitis. You require a course of antibiotics with symptomatic treatment. I suggest you take a tablet of Amoxicillin (antibiotic) 500 milligrams thrice daily for five days and along with this you take Lactobacillus (probiotic) tablets twice daily to prevent associated diarrhea. Symptomatic measures would include warm saline gargles thrice daily, Tylenol (painkiller) 740 milligrams thrice daily for pain relief, and dilute Chlorhexidine (antimicrobial) gargles twice daily to prevent bad breath and rest. It is advisable to avoid cold, spicy, and bitter foods and take plenty of warm fluids. Take adequate nutritious food and take a course of vitamin C tablets during the acute stage. The white hard ball that came out is a stone that got formed due to the stasis of tonsillar secretions in the crypt, calcification caused it to become a hard ball. If this is occurring for the first time, you may ignore it. However, if it has been happening for more than three months, you may think of surgical removal of your tonsils which are causing the problem. Prior to that, I suggest you do the following tests. 1. Complete Hemogram. 2. Throat swab culture and sensitivity. 3. Kidney function tests. 4. Liver function tests. Kindly consult a specialist doctor, talk with them, and take medicines with their concern.

I hope this has helped you.

Thanks and regards.
