Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have been suffering from cancer in the large intestine. What is the treatment?

Kindly help.

Answered by Dr. Shivpal Saini

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

The large intestine cancer is treated with surgery followed by chemotherapy if the tumor is stage 3 or stage 4 on final histopathological examination. If the disease is stage 1, then there is no need for further treatment, but if it is stage 2, then you have to do MSI (microsatellite instability testing) testing. If MSI is high, then the patient will need chemotherapy—no role of radiation therapy at all. Before surgery, you must complete a workup, including CECT (contrast-enhanced computed tomography) thorax and abdomen or PET (positron emission tomography), CT (computed tomography), serum CEA (carcinoembryonic antigen), colonoscopy, and routine blood investigation.

I hope this information will help you.

Thank you.
