Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 15-year-old with problems with my lips. My lips reacted to Vaseline and Carmex (lip balm) by being filled with spots. So, I stopped using those products. But now I wake up with lumps on my lips each day. One day, something formed in the corner of my lips and looked like a boil, lasting a few weeks. The next day after it disappeared, I woke up with a lump, then another one the next day. Also, when I frequently lick my lips because I do not know what products would give me a reaction, I get spots from that. My lips are also always dry and crusty. My mother consulted my general practitioner, but they have not replied for months after saying they would get back to her. My pinky finger on my left hand also feels numb randomly and starts to tingle after a slight shake. It lasts about five minutes and happens a few times a day but only a few days in about two weeks. In my right hand, my whole hand shakes for about five minutes, and it happens randomly, like when I am not doing anything or sometimes when I am writing in school, which causes me to stop writing. The shake in my right hand happens a few days in about two weeks as well, and on the days it happens, it happens a few times the following day, and I cannot physically stop it until it stops by itself. Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read the query, and I can understand your concern.

The persistent lip reactions, lumps, and dryness could indicate an underlying medical condition, such as eczema, contact dermatitis, or an infection. The numbness and shaking in your hands could also be a symptom of a neurological condition, like carpal tunnel syndrome or a nerve disorder. In the meantime, avoid using products that cause a reaction on your lips and keep them moisturized with a fragrance-free lip balm. You can avoid foods containing allergens that could trigger a reaction, such as nuts or dairy products.

It is also essential to practice good hand hygiene and avoid repetitive hand motions that could contribute to nerve damage or carpal tunnel syndrome. If you experience persistent numbness or shaking in your hands, speak with a healthcare provider for further evaluation and treatment.

I hope this will help you.

Thank you.
