How to treat hair thinning across my scalp at 22?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 22-year-old male. For a couple of years, I have been experiencing thinning of my hair across my entire scalp. There is no pattern. My hair is very brittle, sheds quite a lot, and will come out at the slightest touch. This change in my hair began abruptly and did not improve over time.

My blood reports show vitamin D is 50 nmol/L, vitamin B12 is 121 nmol/L, and iron is 30 mmol/L. What causes this, and what can I do to recover?

Please help.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

The causes can be hormonal imbalance, insufficient protein intake, iron deficiency, certain drugs, hairstyles, hair procedures, rough handling, coloring, tablet Effluvium (Silicon-choline, iron, vitamin E, essential nutrients, Arginine, chelated copper, Zinc), and certain autoimmune disorders.

I suggest the following. Take tablet H-Vit Forte (Biotin, Zinc, L-Cysteine, Copper, Selenium) once a day before breakfast for 30 days. Eat oranges, avocado, carrots, yogurt, sweet potatoes, spinach, salmon, green vegetables, eggs, and chicken. Vitamin A, folate, iron, and protein should be increased in the diet. Add onions, eggs, and nuts. Drink lots of water and green tea. Eliminate stress.

Kindly answer the following to help you better.

  1. Do you smoke?
  2. Do you color your hair?
  3. Are you using harsh shampoos?
  4. Is your scalp itching?
  5. Are you under any medication or chemotherapy?
  6. Have you tested for thyroid issues?

Kindly revert in case of further queries.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for your reply.

Please tell me the following:

  1. What does my hair loss look like?
  2. Is it a telogen effluvium or male pattern baldness?
  3. Is my vitamin B12 level low?

Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

It is telogen effluvium (resting stage). Around 10 percent of scalp hair will be at the resting stage for two to three months before actively shedding. Once the hair is shed, new hair starts growing.

The common causes are stress-induced hair loss, physical stress, or mental stress. These stressful episodes push more hair into the resting phase, ranging from 20 to 25 percent (which is 10 percent usually). Also, zinc deficiency, biotin deficiency, low serum iron levels, and lack of essential nutrients in the diet may cause nutritional alopecia.

I suggest the following to reduce your hair loss. Kindly take hair nutrient pill Zincovit (vitamins A, B complex, C, D, and E, along with minerals such as Magnesium, Manganese, Iodine, Copper, Selenium, Chromium, Zinc, and Grapeseed extracts) and tablet H-Vit Forte (Biotin, Zinc, L-Cysteine, Copper, Selenium) for hair growth.

Take Effluvium (Biotin, Zinc, Vitamin E, essential nutrients, Marine gelatin, Arginine) for excessive hair loss due to stress. Continue it for three months. Eat iron-rich foods like spinach, broccoli, lentils, and cashew nuts. Increase vitamin D in your diet.

Eat egg yolks, cheese, rajma, lentils, fortified orange juice, seafood, and liver oil. Vitamin A-rich foods include papaya, carrots, pumpkin, and sweet potatoes. Increase protein like eggs, chicken, fish, curd, milk, and lentils. Kindly avoid stress.

I hope this helps.

Please revert in case of further queries.

Thank you.
