Is the white spot in my mouth a symptom of a tooth cavity?
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have recently gotten a white spot with a little black hole in it that hurts, especially when eating. Please look at the picture.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
It seems to be lichen planus.
Based on what you have described, one possible cause of the lesion could be smoking, which can irritate the lining of the mouth. To better understand the condition, a biopsy (a small tissue sample taken for lab examination) may be recommended.
Another possibility to consider is a cheek bite, which happens when the inside of your cheek accidentally gets bitten, causing irritation. To guide the most appropriate treatment, it would be helpful if you could confirm whether you are experiencing any pain and describe how long it lasts or when it occurs.
Please mention the type of pain. Is it burning or not?
I hope this helps.
Kindly revert in case of further queries.
Thank you.
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
Thank you for the reply.
I do not have burning, but I have only a small pain when moving the jaw and biting. It started about two days ago, and I had a sore throat right before this problem. I did a lot of drinking and smoking lately.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
Then it seems to be a cheek bite. Your upper teeth might touch your cheek during grinding. Please confirm whether this lesion was there earlier or has recently developed.
I hope this helps.
Kindly revert so I can assist you further.
Thank you.
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
Thank you for the reply.
It has just recently developed.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
Based on your symptoms, the most likely cause is habitual cheek or teeth biting, often occurring unconsciously due to stress or grinding. This repeated trauma irritates the inner cheek lining.
The probable diagnosis is cheek biting (morsicatio buccarum), which is common and not dangerous. No tests are needed at this stage.
Treatment includes correcting teeth grinding or overlap if present, and applying Orasole or Oraheal gel for five days. As prevention, avoid spicy foods for two to three days and alcohol for two weeks to allow healing.
Please follow up after seven days to assess improvement.
I hope this helps.
Kindly revert in case of further queries.
Thank you.
