Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I am an 18-year-old. I just joined the military and after six shifts I am feeling very prone to asking a professional for help. When on a shift, I feel constant pressure in the chest area and throat, it is like a ball is stuck in there. Sometimes it is followed by pain, stomach growling, or even headaches. In some instances, the pressure gets so severe it feels harder to breathe. This continues even the next day when I am resting, like now, I am feeling this pressure in my throat and it is annoying. All of this is also accommodated by fatigue and being tired, but that is normal since I am there in the military every third day for 24-hour shifts. Anyway, I am trying to solve this issue since it has been bothering me a lot and causing me distress.
Thanks.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
There are many possible causes:
1. Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD):
GERD can cause stomach acid to move up into the esophagus, leading to these symptoms, especially if you are eating quickly or irregularly due to the demands of your shifts. Stomach growling and chest discomfort can also be symptoms.
2. Anxiety and Stress:
The physical and mental demands of military life can trigger anxiety or stress, which often presents as chest tightness, throat pressure, and a sense of difficulty breathing. This can manifest as tension headaches and fatigue.
3. Physical Exhaustion:
4. Respiratory or Cardiac Issues:
Stress Management:
A physical examination by a doctor in a hospital is a must. Get well soon, and feel free to follow up with any questions.
I hope this information will help you.
Thanks.
