Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

What could be the cause of a needle-like pounding pain in the chest area of a 20-year-old male? He complains of something crawling in his chest and feels like it wants to come out of his mouth.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com

The symptoms you described are not typical of a needle-like pounding pain in the chest and a sensation of something crawling in the chest with a desire to come out of the mouth. These symptoms could be indicative of a rare condition called foreign body aspiration syndrome, which occurs when an individual accidentally inhales a foreign object, such as a piece of food or a small object, into their airway. This can cause symptoms like coughing, wheezing, and shortness of breath, as well as the sensation of something being stuck in the throat or chest.

However, it is important to note that these symptoms are not common in a 20-year-old male without any history of foreign body aspiration. It is more likely that there is an underlying medical condition causing these symptoms. Some possible causes could include:

  1. Panic disorder or anxiety: These conditions can cause physical symptoms like chest pain and feelings of suffocation or choking.
  2. Heart problems: Chest pain and pounding sensations can be signs of heart problems like angina or arrhythmia.
  3. Respiratory issues: Chest pain and difficulty breathing could be indicative of respiratory problems like asthma, bronchitis, or pneumonia.
  4. Digestive issues: Chest pain and feelings of something being stuck in the throat could be related to digestive problems like acid reflux or esophageal spasms.

I hope this helps you. Thank you.
