What is causing pain and tightness in my chest after masturbation?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am in my late teens and I have a weight of 170 to 175 lbs. I have been diagnosed with anxiety around one and a half months back. I have been taking the tablet Buspirone 5 mg (taken three times a day) and the tablet Hydroxyzine 25 mg (taken as and when needed). I am mildly concerned about it and it may be the root cause of my chest pain. I have also taken the tablet Zoloft in the last one and a half weeks but I had constipation after taking it. I think I have a masturbation addiction too. I usually masturbate three or more times a day. Yesterday, when I masturbated for the fourth time, I experienced chest pain and the tightness or squeezing feeling during the act and 10 to 20 minutes after it. After masturbation, I felt pain on the left side while breathing deeply. I have not done much research but I do not think it is linked with a heart condition. I have also got ECG done multiple times during the last month as I was having frequent panic attacks due to my anxiety but all the reports came out to be normal. I did not get any lab tests done. I do not know if this is something I should be concerned about or not, but I am concerned about it nonetheless. Thanks for taking out the time to read this. Any medical advice or information will be appreciated.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query in detail. First of all, I would like to tell you that your age does not favor a heart condition at all. No doubt that there are heart diseases that can occur at your age but they are rare and more symptomatic. Secondly; you should know that when you masturbate and achieve orgasm, there is a sympathetic outflow in your body which can cause an increase in heart rate thus causing increased blood demand of the heart. This is the cause of the chest pain you feel but our human body is so well adapted that it can counter these changes within a few minutes leading you to feel normal. There is nothing to worry about. Just control your masturbation. Thirdly; you should undergo a holter monitoring (a 24 hours ECG monitoring), just to ensure that there is no underlying heart condition that seems less likely in your case so ease out and stay relaxed. You are way too young to suffer from heart disease. Hope this helps. Kindly revert back in case of further queries. Thank you.
