Hello,

I recently had a bronchoscopy with lavage. X-ray to me seems abnormal as it has lots of white areas. My current medication includes Carbocisteine. Is there any visible sign of mucoid impaction, lung abscess, or emphysema? Can you see anything on this x-ray? Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

Please be assured that your x-ray is normal (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity).

This x-ray was done with you lying in a supine position, and the "lots of white" that you see on both sides are due to overlapping portions of the chest wall (which are normally moved aside on erect x-ray by folding the arms outwards).

And also, there is no trace of an abscess, emphysema, or empyema. So feel relaxed with that.

About "mucoid impaction," a supine x-ray snapped on a mobile camera does not allow me to suggest anything. Perhaps, the bronchoscopy report would give a better idea.

So, let your worries leave you, and wait for your concerned doctors to advise you through the next steps of your ongoing management.

Best wishes.

Thank you.
