Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My wife is pregnant for two months. Now she gets chickenpox—some doctors advise her to abort. Kindly give me some advice.

Thanks.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Chickenpox this early can cause problems in one percent of pregnant women with similar issues. We can do scans after this to check the baby, but not all of the issues can be picked up on a scan, and there is no complete cure for the effects on the baby. 99 % of the time, there is no problem. But if you do not want to take even a one percent risk, terminating the pregnancy may be an option. If we can wait and do scans, and if they are reassuring, it may be better to continue the pregnancy. It is an individual decision.

I hope this information will help you.

Thanks.
