Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My serum triglycerides is 235 mg/dL, serum HDL cholesterol is 39.3 mg/dL, Serum LDL cholesterol 109.5 mg/dL, serum VLDL cholesterol is 47 mg/dL. The total CHOL / HDL cholesterol ratio is 4.37.

Should I take medicines? Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern. Triglycerides are slightly raised. I would suggest some lifestyle changes like proper diet by consulting a dietician, regular aerobic exercises for 20 to 30 minutes per day, adequate sleep, and quitting addictions if any. Follow this for six to eight weeks then recheck the lipid profile.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor, thank you so much for the reply.

I have a habit of having whisky twice a week along with non-vegetarian food. My family doctor gave me a medicine called Rosuvastatin 5 for cholesterol. Please advise if the medicine is required or not. It is serious that my triglycerides are high. Last year my triglycerides were 96 mg/dL.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I would suggest you first go with lifestyle modifications, if triglycerides still remain high then, we may consider starting tablets. Your levels are not too high so lifestyle modification is advised.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
