Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have had a persistent throat cold, cough sensation, and difficulty speaking for nearly one month. This issue has affected my ability to communicate effectively. I have taken Azithromycin 500 mg, a capsule containing amoxicillin and Clavulanic acid 625 mg, and a syrup containing Phenylephrine, Chlorpheniramine Maleate and Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide, but the symptoms have not improved. Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understood your concern. I have reviewed the reports you attached (attachments removed to protect the patient’s identity), the chest X-ray results are normal, ruling out pneumonia or tuberculosis. The condition is likely bronchitis. I suggest you consult a specialist, talk with them, and take the medications with their consent. Meanwhile I suggest you follow the below-mentioned treatment plan:

  1. Take a tablet containing Acebrophylline twice daily.
  2. Take a tablet containing Montelukast and Fexofenadine twice daily.
  3. Use a expectorant syrup with combination of Ambroxol, Guaiphenesin and Terbutaline 10 ml three times a day.
  4. Perform povidone - Iodine gargles five to six times a day.
  5. Avoid oily, spicy, and junk food.
  6. Avoid consumption of cold items such as ice cream, cold drinks, and soda.

I hope this has helped you. Kindly follow up if you have more doubts.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Thanks doctor for the reply,

I wanted to inquire whether the tablet containing Montelukast and Fexofenadine is for runny nose, sneezing, and congestion, correct? Since I do not have a runny nose, do I need to take it? I only have throat cold and cough sensation with limited cough. Kindly suggest.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understood your concern. A tablet containing Montelukast and Fexofenadine is also effective for throat issues. I suggest you start the treatment advised in my previous reply. I hope this has helped you. Kindly follow up if you have more doubts.

Thank you.
