Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I have swelling in the throat for the last three months that increase in size and feeling pain when I touch. I am taking antibiotics for infection. The report of the sample taken from the throat says chronic granulomatous lymphadenitis. I want to ask about this disease's seriousness. What is the treatment? What we have to do further? I have attached my reports for your reference. Please guide me.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I have gone through your query, and I have looked at the reports you have provided (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity). The FNAC (fine needle aspiration cytology) shows chronic granulomatous lymphadenitis, suggestive of Koch's pathology. This means there is the possibility of tuberculosis. This needs to be confirmed, though. I would like to know the following answers:
1) Do you have any fever or cough?
2) Any weight loss or anorexia?
3) What is the size of swelling?
4) Does the size decreases with oral antibiotics?
5) Do you have recurrent throat infections?
LN (lymph node) in the neck are very common after a throat infection. I would not consider them to be due to TB (tuberculosis) unless other tests like AFB (acid-fast bacillus) stain or gene Xpert are done. As treatment of tuberculosis is quite long and associated with side effects without confirmation, I would not advise you to start on treatment for TB. If LNs are small (0.03 inch) and if you do not have any symptoms. I would advise you to keep them under observation. If you have any other questions, you can always revert here.
