How to manage a cold, cough, blocked nose, and watery eyes in a 5-month-old baby if cold medicines do not work?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My five-month-old baby has had a blocked nose, cough, cold, and watery eyes for the last eight days. Cold medicine did not work. Currently, the following medicines are given: 1. Paracetamol phenylephrine hydrochloride and Chlorpheniramine maleate drops. 2. Oxymetazoline hydrochloride nasal solution 3. Montelukast sodium.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I hope the baby is alright and you all are safe.

Firstly, watery eyes and a cold with a cough are signs of allergy because the infection is mostly viral. Please make sure that there is no fast breathing or poor activity for the child. If the child is active and taking feeding well, it is best to use Mucolite (Ambroxol) drops of one milliliter twice a day. And you may have to use nebulization with Budecort (Budesonide) and saline (three percent) to relieve the inflammation during this season. Please get back to me with the weight and activity of the child, and I will help you out.

Take care.
