Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
2 years and 6 months old with abnormal CBC test results (two tests seven weeks apart). First tested because of enlarged lymph node (only one side) in neck.
Node has reduced in size to what appears normal. Low MCHC (just barely outside range of 32.0 to 36.0) 31.3. Low NE % of 26.1 Auto difference with range 43.0 to 65.0, high LY % 62.7 with range 20.5 to 45.5, high EO % 3.9 with range 0.9 to 2.9. Highly 6.2 with range of 1.0 to 5.5.
What does this indicate? I have read all the horrible possibilities. Is it possible these are indicative of something not serious?
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Your CBC report is suggestive of lymphocytosis (attachment removed to protect patient identity). The common cause for lymphocytosis is viral infection. The enlarged lymph node could be due to that. Now, your enlarged node return to normal size as per history, so suggestive of infective etiology.
You might be feared about leukemia like condition. But in blood cancer, total count is very much high like more than 50000. So, it is not suggestive of blood cancer. However, if you have persistent lymphocytosis, then it is advisable to investigate with peripheral smear examination report for further work up.
It will be able to help in identifying any abnormal cells, if present like atypical lymphocytes, blast, etc. You can consult your pediatrician for detailed physical examination.
Thank you.
