Kindly interpret my blood test reports and suggest what should be done as a next step.

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had a blood investigation recently, and I would like to ask for help interpreting my blood test report.

Thanks.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for writing, and I understand your concern.

I have gone through your reports, and they are absolutely fine except few changes, which are minor to cause anything (attachments removed to protect the patient’s identity).

There is slightly low MCH (mean corpuscular hemoglobin) and elevated lymphocytes due to infections.

But the only concern is you have protein in the urine, and it is called proteinuria. And treatment depends on the symptoms you have. Kindly answer me the following to help you better;

1) Do you take extra supplements?

2) Do you have frequent urination?

3) Is there any foul odor in urine?

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thanks for the reply.

I do not take any protein supplements for the time being. I have normally been urinating, not excessively. There is no foul odor in the urine.

I have a concern. I am sexually active, and my penis is a little uncomfortable. When it erects, it hurts a little, without any signs of excess fluid or itchiness. My penis glans looks dry, and it seems like balanitis. Does that influence anything from the result?

Kindly help.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

For proteinuria, the associated reasons are hypertension and dehydration, so stay hydrated. From your reports, there is nothing serious. But if you are experiencing symptoms of dryness or balanitis, then ointment will help you. I would suggest you use lubricants during intercourse. Make sure your partner does not have any symptoms of STD (sexually transmitted diseases) such as discharge from the vagina, itching, or rashes.

I suggest you apply ointment Clotrimazole twice a day for five days, and everything will be fine. Maintain general hygiene such as cleaning with soap and water frequently and specifically after intercourse.

Thank you.
