What does it mean if CBC values are out of range?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Recently, I got a CBC and STI panel tested. I was informed by a doctor that there is an issue with my blood test results. Please review the report and let me know if you find any issues.

Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Your lipid profile is a bit abnormal; HDL (high-density lipoprotein) levels are pretty low, but triglycerides and LDL (low-density lipoprotein) levels are high. Your serum electrolyte profile shows that sodium and chloride are a bit low, but it is not alarming because it is only a little bit low. It fluctuates on a day-to-day basis, depending on your fluid intake and output, so nothing to worry about there. Your Vitamin B12 and your Vitamin D levels indicate you are severely deficient.

But other than these, your CBC (complete blood count), LFT (liver functional test), RFT (renal functional test), HbA1c (glycated hemoglobin test), and even your serology reports all show non-reactive, so nothing to worry about. In CBC, your eosinophil count is a bit abnormal, but that could only be because of any allergies or if you are suffering from a common cold right now, so not alarming either.

Ensure that you have a clean diet by cutting down on foods with high saturated fats, alcohol, and as well as smoking. Please follow up with a local doctor regarding your abnormal lipid profile for medication. Do you have any other underlying conditions that you are already taking medicines for, like diabetes, hypertension (high blood pressure), or thyroid condition?

I hope this helps.

Kindly follow up if you have more concerns.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Thank you for the reply, Doc.I do not eat non-vegetarian food. I do not smoke or drink. I do not have diabetes, hypertension (high bp), or thyroid issues. How soon should I contact the local doctor regarding the lipid profile for medication? Is the issue serious, or can I wait for a few weeks and visit the doctor? I am asking this because I have a skin infection, and I am currently taking medication for it. Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Usually, it is preferable to go to a local doctor immediately because there can be an increased risk of heart disease if you let this go on for a long time. But your lipid profile isn't too abnormal to the point that it is dangerous, so you can hold off for a few weeks, but in these few weeks, avoid foods with high saturated fats and exercise daily for at least one hour.

I hope this helps.

Please follow up if you have any further concerns.

Thank you.
