What can be the reasons for my 58-year-old father suddenly screaming at night?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi,

My 58-year-old father suddenly screamed last night. While we were all asleep, he suddenly got up from the bed, his eyes were closed, and he was shouting. He lifted and threw wooden furniture. We then shook him and tapped on him, after which he became conscious. He was not himself at that time. He did not realize what he did after he opened his eyes and until now. Now he has extreme body pain. This behavior entirely shattered us. What is it doctor? What happened to him? Is anything wrong with him? He has no other illnesses, and he is not under any medication. Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

It is difficult to diagnose from the history above, but your father may have a sleep disorder or complex partial seizure episode.

I suggest you perform an EEG (electroencephalogram) to rule out any organic causes for it.

I hope you got your answer. Please let me know if you want more help.

Thank you.
