Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I want to get pregnant without my husband knowing about it, as he does not want a second child. Can I get pregnant from sperm ejaculated in a non-spermicidal condom if I use the sperm after ten minutes of ejaculation in the condom? I wiped sperm from a non-spermicidal condom after ten minutes inside my vagina. I did it on the day of ovulation. I will try proper self-insemination next month on ovulation days by using sperm from the non-spermicidal condom. Can I get pregnant by doing that? How long do sperm live in a non-spermicidal condom? Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

One of the important things when trying to get pregnant is the deposition of viable sperm inside the vagina. So, provided the condom is non-spermicidal, you can use a plastic pipette to collect the semen from the condom and deposit it inside your vagina as high as possible. You should lie down for about 30 minutes after that. The chances of getting pregnant are almost the same as normal ejaculation inside your vagina. The length of time the sperm lives outside the body (in a condom) varies depending on the temperature and other factors. However, for maximum chance of achieving pregnancy, do your insemination within 30 minutes of ejaculation.

I hope this helps.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for your reply.

How long before or after should I do self-insemination to get pregnant? If I do the insemination one or two days before actual ovulation, can I get pregnant? Should we do insemination before or after ovulation or on the day of ovulation?

Answered by Dr. Obinna Ugwuoke

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

It is better done on the day of ovulation or within 24 hours before or after ovulation. There are different theories on the duration sperm cells can survive in the vagina after deposition. Or the egg can survive in the fallopian tube after ovulation. However, all theories agree that chances of pregnancy are higher at ovulation or within 24 hours before or after ovulation.

I hope this helps.
