Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
My baby is nine days old. A heart murmur was identified during a check-up with the pediatrician. He said that the cardiovascular system is abnormal, with a soft systolic grade 2/6 murmur at the left sternal border (LSB). We have conducted an echocardiogram, and the results are as follows: ventricular septal defect (Q21.0) with a stable condition and atrial septal defect (Q21.1) with a stable condition. There is a moderate-sized secundum ASD and a moderate-sized perimembranous VSD with a pressure gradient of 55 mmHg. I would like to know the risk factors for the identification of the murmur and the steps to cure this as early as possible. We need your support and guidance on this.
Please help.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I appreciate your trust in our services. I have carefully reviewed your query and fully understand the sensitivity of the health issues you described.
The baby has congenital heart malformations, which are abnormalities in the development of normal heart structures. He has both an atrial septal defect and ventricular defects in the wall separating the left and right sides of the heart. In such a situation, cardiac surgical correction may be an option for a quick response. Otherwise, the condition can be long-lasting, and it is not a disease that can be cured rapidly. Unfortunately, some babies are born with such defects; however, modern management options have saved countless lives. His pressure gradient is not severe enough to cause blue lips and skin, indicating that he is likely to have a good prognosis. Please consult a pediatric cardiac surgeon in person for a physical evaluation and further management.
I hope this helps.
Thank you.
