Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 18 years old, and my weight is 99 pounds, which has not been increasing. Two years ago, I experienced difficulty passing stool and urine simultaneously, leading to incomplete defecation. Initially, I did not consider it a significant concern. However, after a trip where I consumed more outside food and had insufficient sleep, I vomited upon returning. Subsequently, I developed constipation, exacerbating the issue of being unable to pass stool and urine concurrently. I sought help from an Ayurvedic doctor who prescribed tablets, which successfully treated my constipation. However, before the constipation, I used to have firm, brown stools, and after the constipation episode, my stools became soft, yellowish, and the odor changed. Currently, I am experiencing muscle weakness, excessive sleep, difficulty remembering study material, and ongoing stool problems. Despite undergoing various tests, including blood tests, stool routine, and sonography, no abnormalities were found. Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Based on your description, it is possible that you may be experiencing symptoms related to a digestive disorder. Here are some potential causes and treatment options:

  1. Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS): IBS is a common digestive disorder that can cause symptoms such as constipation, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and bloating. It is possible that your initial symptoms of incomplete defecation and constipation may be related to IBS. Treatment for IBS may include dietary modifications, stress management techniques, and medications to manage symptoms.
  2. Chronic constipation: Constipation is a common digestive issue that can be caused by a variety of factors, including diet, lifestyle, and underlying medical conditions. The yellowish color and soft consistency of your stool suggest that you may be experiencing chronic constipation. Treatment for chronic constipation may include dietary modifications, exercise, and medications to stimulate bowel movements.
  3. Malabsorption syndrome: Malabsorption syndrome occurs when the body is unable to absorb nutrients properly from food due to a variety of factors, including digestive disorders and medications. Symptoms of malabsorption syndrome can include weight loss, fatigue, and cognitive changes. Your symptoms of muscle weakness, excess sleep, and memory problems could be related to malabsorption syndrome. Treatment for malabsorption syndrome may include dietary modifications, supplements, and medications to manage symptoms.
  4. Dehydration: Dehydration can occur when the body loses more fluid than it takes in, which can lead to a variety of symptoms including fatigue, muscle weakness, and cognitive changes. It is possible that dehydration could be contributing to your symptoms. Treatment for dehydration may include increasing fluid intake and addressing any underlying medical conditions that may be contributing to fluid loss.

Treatment for digestive issues can vary depending on the underlying cause of the symptoms. Here are some common treatment options:

  1. Dietary modifications: Making dietary changes, such as increasing fiber intake, reducing fat intake, and avoiding certain foods that may trigger symptoms, can help manage digestive issues.
  2. Medications: Medications can be used to manage specific digestive disorders, such as acid-reducing medications for acid reflux or laxatives for constipation.
  3. Probiotics: Probiotics are live bacteria and yeasts that are beneficial for gut health. They can help to restore the balance of bacteria in the gut and alleviate symptoms of digestive disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome.
  4. Lifestyle modifications: Making lifestyle changes, such as getting regular exercise, managing stress, and getting enough sleep, can help to improve overall gut health and manage digestive issues.

I hope your queries are resolved and any further queries are welcome. Thank you.
