Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I have been suffering from constipation for the past six months. Usually, I go through seasonal constipation every year in February and March months, but it will become normal within a week. But this year it is continued. I took Isabgol one tablespoon a day and was somewhat much better.
But with two tablespoons Isabgol per day with water I am fine and bowel movements are normal. I defecate in just one minute with this. Stools are also smooth as per normal Bristol chart.
Please advise me if I should continue with two tablespoons of Isabgol? And is the long term consumption of Isabgol safe? Also, what can be my problem, or is there something to worry about? I do not have any other problem. Appetite is fine with no weight loss and flatulence.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Constipation requires some lifestyle modifications for its cure. Most important is the increased intake of fluid and fruits. Avoid spicy and junk food. If you like papaya, add it in adequate quantities to your diet.
In case you have not had your thyroid and blood sugar tested, get it done. I would also recommend you avoid Isabgol (Psyllium husk) as far as possible. You can use Softovac powder (Isabgol, Sonamukhi, Amaltas, Harad, Mulethi, Gulab dal, and Saunf ) as it contains some other ayurvedic contents along with Isabgol.
However, it is the safest laxative to use. So use Isabgol whenever you feel very constipated.
I hope this helps.
Thank you.
