Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had constipation for about three days, after a few days I realized I had a swelling (small lump-like) on my butthole (on one side). It is slightly painful, especially when I sit. I am not on any medication and I did not take pictures or go to a doctor. It is not sore when I go to the bathroom though. Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com

I read your query and understand your concern. The small lump you described near your anus and the picture shared by you (attachment removed to protect patient’s identity), could potentially be a condition known as an external hemorrhoid. Hemorrhoids are swollen blood vessels that can develop in the rectal area. They are often caused by increased pressure on the veins in the pelvic and rectal areas. Common factors that contribute to hemorrhoids include straining during bowel movements, chronic constipation, prolonged sitting, and pregnancy. Symptoms of external hemorrhoids can include a small, painful lump or swelling near the anus, discomfort or pain, itching, and difficulty sitting. While it's not unusual for hemorrhoids to be painful, they may not always cause pain during bowel movements. I may recommend lifestyle changes, such as increasing fiber intake, staying hydrated, and avoiding straining during bowel movements. Over-the-counter creams or ointments may also provide relief. I hope you find this helpful.

Thank you.
