My fiancee was bleeding after I-pill. Is it periods or due to pregnancy?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My fiancee and I had sex on the 16th. After two hours, she took an I-pill for the first time. She is not on any birth control pills, and she said she got her period on the 25th. I am scared, whether it is periods or anything regarding pregnancy because she has a problem with irregular periods. The last period she got was on the 5th, two months ago. Please help. I need a good consultation on this.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

As her period was irregular and the last one was two months ago, it is a bit difficult to predict the chances of pregnancy quite surely. However, I-pill is a very effective medicine for preventing pregnancy. So, considering her irregular period and bleeding, do a pregnancy test first after 14 days of intercourse. And if negative, then repeat weekly for two more weeks. If all three are negative, no pregnancy. Moreover, the chances of her getting pregnant is very less. It is all precautionary to be on the safer side. Relax and take care.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

She did the pregnancy test on the 9th, which was negative, but according to her, it was her period which lasted for five days from heavy bleeding to light. And yes, I forgot to mention I did not penetrate inside her. It was getting painful. So, we just did fingering and rubbing. I am unaware whether it had any precum because I ejaculated on her stomach. It did not happen near her vagina.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Relax. The chances of pregnancy are very rare. Do not bother for the period also. It will come. Just do not take any more hormonal pills without consultation.

Thanks.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Today was the 45th day from our last exposure, and she tested in the afternoon from UPT, which came out negative. Can this negative result change if there is no further exposure? And what was that which she got on 25th? Was it her period because she said she had clots in her bleeding and lasted for five days like her normal periods? Any side effects of I-pill? Please help.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

No, This test result will not change now. There are no chances of pregnancy at all from the last exposure now. So, relax. The bleeding may be her period or just withdrawal bleeding because of I-pill. So, whatever it was, do not bother. Such irregularities are common after such mental stress and I-pill. So as there is no more chance of pregnancy from the last act, just let her stress-free. The period will resume to the normal schedule automatically.
