Does taking an I-pill make periods irregular?

Hi doctor,

I took I-pill after two days of having sex. I read that symptoms can persist for at least seven days after taking pills. During this time, I had severe itching and it is better now. I had a lot of water discharge without any foul smell. Why? Now, I still have pain in my breasts. My boyfriend sucked it too hard. Can it be due to it? Is it a side effect of I-pill? What is the reason? My periods are irregular and it comes once in two months. When can I expect my periods after taking I-pill? I am not feeling mentally well as I am having some anxiety and problems. Kindly help me to tackle this situation.

As you have periods once in two months, then the best thing is to wait for your periods to come within a week and if you do not get your periods, then do a pregnancy test at home to rule out pregnancy. As you had your intercourse last week, it takes around two weeks to become positive after intercourse. Though the chances of pregnancy are negligible without ejaculation sometimes pre-ejaculatory secretions can contain sperms and so there is no harm in ruling out pregnancy. You did not mention whether you had intercourse prior to the previous cycle. Avoid taking I-pill regularly. Take a proper contraceptive. If you are having a frequent relationship with him, then either use a condom or start taking combined oral pills.

I-pill (Levonorgestrel) can cause irregularities in periods. Nobody can exactly tell the date of your periods as you have a cycle of two months. You need to wait for some time or you can do a test to rule out pregnancy. Do some blood investigations to rule out the cause of prolonged cycles after having a negative pregnancy result. Itching is a sign of vaginal infection and it occurs commonly in sexually active females. You can use Surfaz SN (Beclomethasone with Neomycin and Clotrimazole) once a day for a week. Do not use soap over there. If it does not get better, then you need to take an antibiotic course. Pain in breasts can occur due to I-pill. Some females can have premenstrual breast pain. If it gets settles down after periods, then there is nothing to be worried. Do not be stressed. Stress is one of the common causes to have irregular periods. If you do not get your periods even with a negative pregnancy result, then do some blood investigations on empty stomach to rule out other causes. You can do serum TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone), serum prolactin, serum LH (luteinizing hormone), and serum FSH (follicle-stimulating hormone). But do these investigations on the second or third day of getting periods.
