Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am 42 now. I was a smoker from my teens, and it became really worse at some point. My lungs got affected, and I have been dealing with COPD for a while. I attended a smoking cessation program as per my primary care physician’s advice and quit the habit a year ago. I have been on treatment for COPD with inhalers, steroids, and Salmeterol. Anyway, my lungs are rather weak, and I feel weak and tired even after climbing just one flight of stairs. My blood pressure is also on the high side, and I am taking tablets for that, too. Can you help me with the weakness?

Hi,

I appreciate that you have chosen icliniq.com for your medical needs.

I am here to give you the best care possible.

It is great that you quit smoking and attended a smoking cessation program. COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) can cause symptoms such as shortness of breath and fatigue, especially during physical exertion. If you are experiencing weakness and fatigue after climbing stairs, it could be due to the reduced lung function associated with COPD. The decreased ability of your lungs to efficiently exchange oxygen and carbon dioxide can lead to feelings of tiredness and breathlessness. In addition to following your prescribed treatment for COPD, there are a few things you can do to manage your symptoms and improve your overall well-being:

  1. Pulmonary rehabilitation: This program involves exercise training, education, and support to improve lung function and reduce symptoms. It can help increase your exercise tolerance and decrease fatigue.
  2. Regular exercise: Engaging in regular physical activity, as recommended by your healthcare provider, can help improve lung capacity and overall fitness.
  3. Healthy lifestyle: Eating a balanced diet, staying hydrated, and getting adequate rest can support your overall health and energy levels.
  4. Managing blood pressure: High blood pressure can contribute to feelings of fatigue. Taking your prescribed medication, following a healthy diet, and engaging in regular exercise can help manage blood pressure levels.
  5. I hope you are satisfied with my answer. For further queries, you can consult me at icliniq.

    Thank you.
