Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

For the past 12 days, I have had a cough. In the beginning, the cough was wet, and mucus would come out mostly green, and then in five to six days, the mucus became clear and white in color. Only very less dry cough. While sleeping, I did not cough, and the wetness in my lung was gone. But it became a dry cough, and the cough also became less. But last night, when I was in bed, I coughed five to six times, and blood came in it, and then deliberately I coughed, and blood came. It was red, and I could taste blood in my mouth. This was the first time something had happened to me like that. And this morning, also I coughed deliberately, and the blood came, but it was lighter in color. But now, no blood is coming. Currently, the cough is really less, and no chest congestion, but little nose congestion is there. I smoke one to two cigarettes every day, not more. While having this cough, also I smoked once daily. Could this be lung or throat cancer symptoms? The local doctor said it was due to pressure caused due to coughing. Please guide me.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query and sorry for such discomfort.

You have mentioned coughing blood mixed with sputum. Initially, you had a wet cough followed by a dry cough. There is a history of chronic smoking, and you are smoking one to two cigarettes per day. The most likely reason for blood in cough would be due to sudden pressure generated due to the dry cough reflex, and you also coughed deliberately. It may be mucosal erosion in the pharynx due to a dry cough.

Have you done an X-ray chest?

Are you taking any medication for a dry cough?

Since how long are you smoking?

The doubt that you have is very less likely. You definitely need to stop smoking, and if you find it difficult to quit smoking, kindly visit a local doctor to guide you quit smoking habits. Please reply to the above questions.

Thanks and regards.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thanks for the reply.

I live in a very small town and during the initial coughing started, I asked the doctor for an X-ray he said no to it.

If the medication does not work, then he will move to X-ray, and today also he said no to X-ray and just gave me an antibiotic and one anti-allergy, both once a night. Zeoclar 250, Bilazest, and cough syrup. For seven days, my cough became normal. No fever. Just now, I coughed deliberately but no blood. Suppose you can prescribe some medication antibiotics. Really last night, there was a lot of blood, and the morning blood color was lighter. After your medication, I will go to the city for an X-ray.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

You are taking adequate medication for the cough. No need to add any other medication. Take the above medication as suggested by the local doctor.

Do not deliberately cough. Also, do not worry. It is essential for you to quit smoking in the upcoming days. The main culprit is smoking. With the above medication, there might be no need for an X-ray, but if possible, get it done.

Hope you find my reply helpful.

Please follow up if you have any further related queries about it.

Thanks and regards.
